New Player Information

HYL is a youth lacrosse club located in Hermiston, Oregon.  We belong to the Central Washington Lacrosse League which includes Walla Walla, Yakima and multiple teams from the Tri-Cities, .  We offer a spring recreation league as well as opportunities for additional tournament play.   Teams are organized by grades (1st-8th currently co-ed) and we welcome players from all areas in Umatilla and Morrow Counties. Registration typically opens the month of January.

Timetable:  Teams for our spring league are finalized by March. Practices begin in March and league games start around Spring Break and run through early June.  Our goal is to play in 2 competitive tournaments along with our regular league games.  There are other opportunities in our area for competitive summer and falls teams.

Practices & Games:  Spring recreational team practices are held 2-3 days per week depending on the team. Location will be in Hermiston at the HERO Sports Complex at EOTEC.  Your team coach will notify you of practice dates, times, and location.  Game days will be either one evening/week or Saturday afternoons.

Equipment/Uniforms:   Please see the required equipment link here. Players will provide their own equipment. A uniform fee is required and the player keeps the uniform at the end of each season.  If they are able to use it again the next season, no uniform fee is charged.

Experience:  About 30% of the HYL players every year are new to the sport – even more at the younger levels. Lacrosse is an easy game to pick up and learn, and you should expect your child to be able to perform well.

Coaches:  All coaches are volunteers, most are parents, and are selected by the HYL Board of Directors. Most have a background in lacrosse, but some are eager to learn and help the sport grow. Training is available from experienced coaches, including the high school level, and from USA Lacrosse. If you are interested in being a coach, please contact us.

Registration Fees:  The cost to register for HYL varies by grade, ranging from $50 to $90.  The largest expenses for lacrosse are referees, tournaments and equipment, accounting for over 70% of our annual cost. HYL is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

All Players:  All players need to be current members of USA Lacrosse. You can join or renew your membership at USALacrosse.com when you register. All players are required to agree to the Player’s Agreement, the Code of Conduct, Sudden Cardiac Arrest and the Lystedt Law. Forms are available on line when you register.

Rules for Youth Lacrosse Please see the USA Lacrosse page for the latest rules.

Age and Eligibility Guidelines
USA Lacrosse establishes eligibility guidelines in order to promote the game of lacrosse among the youth of America in a safe and sportsmanlike environment. To best achieve this goal, USA Lacrosse believes that leagues, associations, and other organizers of youth lacrosse should seek to provide playing opportunities that, as much as possible, establish a "level playing field" among players of similar age, size, and ability.

League and Association Play. Leagues and associations should organize competition by age, and consider physical, cognitive, and emotional maturity when grouping players. For leagues or associations in which some local programs choose to organize their teams by grade, those teams should play in the age division determined by the oldest player on their roster.
